Photography Safaris in Kenya

Kenya is one of the most beautiful countries to photograph in Africa. It is an outstanding country with a diverse range of landscapes, mammal and bird species, and it is highly recommended as a suitable site for a photography safari. Kenya’s prolific wildlife that inhabits its national parks and other reserves is the main attraction for most tourists who want to go on a Kenya photography safari. The wet season has the greenest landscapes and the clearest skies, but it can be a challenging time.

Photography safaris in Kenya are often centered on four parks or reserves with exceptional photographic potential, diverse settings, and fauna: Masai Mara’s huge migration and river crossings are what make it famous, but there are several other reasons to visit the Mara.

Amboseli has Kilimanjaro as a backdrop to the many elephants below, but there are some great surprises to discover just beyond its bounds. Birdlife, rhinos, and lions are abundant in Lake Nakuru and the other Rift Valley lakes. Flamingos are always the star of the scenery here, and they may nearly always be seen in particular lakes, from Magadi to Baringo. Moving north, reserves such as Samburu and Turkana provide a whole new experience of remoteness, startlingly varied fauna, wonderful birdlife, and some of Africa’s finest culture.

The Aberdares National Park has highland woods teeming with Elephants, Buffaloes, Black Rhinos, Leopards, and other unusual species like the Giant Forest Hog and the Mt Kenya Red-faced Duiker. Although game drives in the park are available, the majority of game watching is done from the lodges when animals come to drink or collect salt. Hides and viewing platforms are available at the lodges as most of them provide excellent photo opportunities.

Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks make Kenya’s largest parks and home to the country’s highest elephant population. Most of these elephants have massive tusks and a distinctive red hue due to the color of the earth where they dust and mud bathing. Most animal species can be found in Tsavo East and West including the African Wild Dogs. Photographers may also enjoy some of Africa’s spectacular scenery, including rocky hills and valleys, old lava flows, and a breathtaking view of the Chyulu Hills and Mt Kilimanjaro.

The conservancies of Laikipia, Ol Pejeta, and Borana have converted the environment west of Mount Kenya into a remarkable example of conservation and grazing. The end effect is incredible wildlife views against the backdrop of Mt Kenya.

Colorful traditional ethnic groups like the Maasai, Samburu, and Turkana are excellent subjects for photography safaris in Kenya, but obtaining permission before photographing them is critical. Many may refuse, while others will demand payment. Nonetheless, a paid visit to a traditional town bordering the Maasai Mara or Samburu-Buffalo Springs is a wonderful choice for capturing traditionally dressed individuals. The Swahili people of the coast, on the other hand, are particularly wary of being photographed, especially women, whose Islamic culture considers it impolite.

Photography safaris in Kenya necessitate quicker lenses with better magnification than most other subjects. A zoom lens that goes up to 300 mm and a fixed 400 mm lens with the fastest f-stop of about 2.8, would be excellent. We provide a beanbag to rest your lens on to reduce the chance of camera shake.

When to go for a Photography Safari in Kenya

In Kenya, wildlife viewing is good all year: however, the dry season, which lasts from late June to October, is the greatest time for a photography safari in Kenya. But this also varies in every park; for instance, the wildebeest migration normally arrives in Masai Mara in August and stays until October, when it moves back to Tanzania’s Serengeti.

Kenya’s infrastructure and aircraft logistics are also impressive, allowing you to easily traverse the entire country.
