Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park – Goma
You will set off from Kigali to the Rwanda – Congo border. Visit the Virunga offices by 13:00pm to pick your Gorilla and Volcano trek permits which must be presented at the start of each trek. After completing the check in you will be transferred to Mikeno camp.
Journey time – 4 hours
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla trekking
After an early morning breakfast, your first stop will be the park headquarters for briefing before starting the trek. After briefing, together with your ranger guide, you will start the hike in search of mountain gorillas. You are allowed 1 hour with these gentle giants after locating them. After this experience start the journey back to the headquarters and proceed to the camp for overnight.
Day 3: Another Gorilla Trek
Today you will have another gorilla trek in a different section of the park and overnight at a different lodge thereafter returning to Mikeno the next day.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking & Visit to the Gorilla Orphanage
Just like Gorilla trekking, the chimpanzee trekking starts early morning. You will leave with the rangers early morning until you locate the chimps. You are allowed 1 hour with the chimps when you locate them after which you start the journey back to the Mikeno lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali
Today after an early breakfast at hotel, your driver guide will transfer you to Kigali. You will have short stops for stretching and lunch until you arrive in Kigali.
