Most people who travel to Congo come to visit the mountain gorillas in the Virunga national park. In the south, there is the Kahuzi-biega national park is home to the lowland gorilla. These are less famous than the mountain gorillas but equally fascinating. This tour will give you a glimpse into their life and a short tour of Bukavu.

Day 1: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park – Bukavu, Congo
Today after an early breakfast at the hotel, your driver guide will transfer you to Bukavu in DR Congo. The journey will take you through the winding roads of Rwanda the country of a thousand hills passing various towns and villages. You will have short stopovers for stretching and to grab a picnic lunch.
The DR Congo border closes at 3 pm so you must depart from Kigali before 7am to make it in time. After the border crossing, your guide will transfer you to the hotel for overnight.
Journey time – 7 hours
Day 2: Lowland Gorilla trekking
The driver guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing before you can start the lowland gorilla trek. The experience takes anything from 1 hour to several before locating them depending on where they nested.
Once you locate them, you have 1 hour in their presence before you leave. Sometimes you will find them in the trees or on the ground where you will get better opportunities.
Day 3: Transfer to Kigali – Lowland Gorilla
After breakfast your driver guide will pick you up and you start your journey back to Kigali. Enjoy the winding roads of Rwanda and you reminisce on your trip in the forests of Congo.
